Spend the morning touring key locations of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical film “The Sound of Music”.
See Mirabell Gardens where Maria and the children danced and sang, the Leopoldskron Lake – where they fell into the water, the abbey where the real Maria Trapp was a novice, the church where Maria and the Baron were married in the film – and much more.
Your afternoon experience takes you to the Bavarian mountains for a thrilling underground adventure. Arriving at some 450 year-old salt mines, don miners’ overalls and drop 100 feet into the ground on a long slide. Travel on a little train to different parts of the mine and enjoy the incredible experience of sailing on a salt lake within the caverns.
This combo trip makes a fabulous family day out!
The super-value Sound of Music and Salt Mines Combo Tour comprises two supremely popular Salzburg tours: the Original Sound of Music tour and the Bavarian Mountains and Salt Mines Tour.
You can start your tour either with “Original Sound of Music Tour” at 09:15am or "Bavarian Mountains and Salt Mines Tour" at 08:45am.
You will be picked up from Bus-terminal, Mirabellplatz. “Original Sound of Music Tour”: The original “Sound of Music” soundtrack will be played as you travel along.
Highlights of the tour include the following:
Mirabell Gardens: Maria and the children danced around the statue of Pegasus, the winged horse, and throughout the gardens singing 'Do-Re-Mi'.
Leopoldskron Castle: The castle front was used as the Trapp family home, and the children were boating on the Leopoldskron Lake when they fell into the water. The Venetian room was copied from the castle and used as the ballroom.
Hellbrunn Castle: The glass pavilion in the gardens of this 17th century hunting castle, used in the film, was reconstructed for the pleasure of “Sound of Music” fans still returning after 30 years.
Nonnberg Abbey: In real life Maria Trapp was a novice here and the baron and Maria were married here in 1927. Scenes for the movie made here include the opening with the nuns going to Mass and Maria coming too late.
St.Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang: Scenery shown at the beginning of the movie was filmed at Lake Fuschl on the way to St. Gilgen.
Wedding Church Mondsee: The film wedding between Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummer as the Baron took place in Mondsee Cathedral.
