Admire the awesome majesty of the Bavarian Alps and rejuvenate in the scenic tranquility of the valleys and mountain passes en route to Berchtesgaden. This used to be Hitler's mountain retreat and is a place brimming with history.
Enjoy an educational adventure and see some breathtaking natural scenery as you explore the underground world of the salt mines.
What's the plan:
Pass the hunting castle Hellbrunn and cross the Austrian-Bavarian border. Drive along the Königseeache valley, through the Bavarian mountains, past the ruins of Obersalzberg - Hitler's former mountain retreat. Arrive at the 500-year-old Salt mines.
Wear traditional miners' clothing, enter the mines, and hear legendary tales of the fascinating underground world. Go down a 100-foot-long slide into the grottos, take a raft ride on the salt lake, and a miniature train ride to end this educational adventure.
Proceed to Berchtesgaden located on the German border with Austria, in the Bavarian Alps. This is well known as Hitler's mountain retreat and the southern headquarters of the Nazi party. From here you can view Eagles Nest and the magnificent snowcapped peaks of the Bavarian mountains. You can also enjoy a boat ride on the lake if it is not frozen.
The tour concludes at Mirabellplatz.
