Perched high on an escarpment with a stunning backdrop of mountains, Ronda is one of Andalucia’s loveliest historic towns. Discover the enchantment for yourself on this away-day from Seville.
Heart-stoppingly beautiful views await at every turn. Best of all are the panoramas from the leafy park of Alameda del Tajo and from the incredible 18th century Puente Nuevo (New Bridge) over the dizzying El Tajo gorge.
An array of magnificent buildings add to the visual feast. There’s the Plaza de Toros – Spain's oldest bull-ring, and Santa Maria church – a fascinating mix of Arabic and Christian design, not to mention the charming Casa de Juan Bosco and the elegant Gate of Philip the 5th.
You will see all these and more. And to complete a day of delights you will have a chance to sample some of the excellent local wines. Plus you will have free time to explore the town at your own pace.
For your Sightseeing Tour of Ronda you will be picked up from your hotel in Seville or you can join the tour at C/ Zaragoza, nº1, 41001 Sevilla. You will travel in a minibus and an expert guide will accompany you.
Your route goes through the beautiful mountain scenery of the Serrania de Ronda. In less than 2 hours you will be in Ronda, a picturesque town dramatically located above a plunging cliff.
First you will visit the Alameda del Tajo. These attractive 19th century gardens offer sensational views of the surrounding countryside.
Next, enjoy a tour of Plaza de Toros, the oldest bullring in Spain. This magnificent stone structure has hosted some of the most important events in bullfighting history. Your guided tour reveals many ‘behind-the-scenes’ secrets of bullfighting and you will have the chance to take pictures from the very center of the bullring.
Afterwards, you will see the Puente Nuevo (New Bridge). This amazing bridge took around 42 years to complete and is more than 200 years old. Spanning the dizzying 100- meter- deep El Tajo canyon, it connects the old city of Ronda with newer parts of town. The stunning views will take your breath away.
You will go on to the lovely Casa de Juan Bosco. Built by a wealthy Ronda family, this was donated to the religious order founded by the Italian priest Don Juan Bosco in the late 19th century. The house has a delightful tiled patio with a glass roof as well as fine furniture. The beautiful gardens have striking tile and mosaic decorations as well as stupendous views over the Serrania and the Puente Nuevo.
Next, you will visit the Puente Viejo, Ronda’s lovely ‘Old Bridge’, the Puerta de Felipe V, (Gate of Philip the 5th), and the San Miguel Bridge, where you will enjoy another set of glorious views.
From here you proceed to Santa Maria Church, on the site of a former mosque in the heart of Ronda. Here you can admire the magnificent ‘mudejar’ tower and the pretty ‘Casita de la Torre’. The church is a fusion of Islamic and Christian architectural styles.
After this you will visit the Wine Museum of Ronda. Here, you will have a guided tour of Vinos de la Sangre de Ronda Wine-cellars as well as a tasting of local wines.
Later you will have around 2 hours free time to explore Ronda and have lunch (own expense) before returning to Seville. Your guide will advise you the meeting point for your transfer back to Seville. On arrival in Seville, you will be dropped back at your hotel or at the office of the local isango! partner.
