Venture into the roadless wilderness of the lovely Coto Donana in a 4WD vehicle on this exciting day tour.
Thanks to the combination of history and geography, Coto Doñana is in pristine condition, making it one of Europe's finest nature reserves. Its extensive swamps are renowned for their rich birdlife; in winter hosting thousands of migrants from north and central Europe, and in summer welcoming visitors flying in from Africa.
Coto Donana’s heathlands are among the few places where the rare Spanish imperial eagle can be found and are also home to all kinds of other exciting animals such as wild boar, lynx and mongoose.
Explore this beautiful and atmospheric place with an expert guide. Binoculars are provided.
Your trip also includes a visit to El Rocio village - one of Andalucia’s most important pilgrimage places - and a stroll along the beach at Matalascañas.
At the start of your Coto de Doñana Tour from Seville you will be picked up from your hotel in a minibus. Accompanied by a guide, you will be driven to Huelva, about an hour’s journey from Seville. If you wouldn't like to be picked up from your hotel, you can join the tour from Seville's city center at C/ Zaragoza, nº1, 41001 Sevilla
At Huelva you will board an off-road vehicle to visit the north of the Coto de Doñana National Park. A Park Ranger will escort you, along with your own tour guide.
Covering some 76,080 hectares (188,000 acres), the Park is Spain's largest wildlife reserve and one of the world's most important sites for migrating birds. In spring, hundreds of flocks of birds fly in to nest in the wetlands, closely followed by large numbers of keen bird-watchers! In autumn the Park is home to thousands of winter wildfowl such as greylag geese, teal, widgeon and many other species.
The Park boasts a number of rare birds, including the almost-extinct Spanish imperial eagle, plus interesting mammals such as the Spanish lynx, mongoose and wild boar.
You will see the different habitats of the Park such as the heathland (matorral) and the swamps (marismas) and learn about the different fauna and flora found in each.
On the way you will stop at El Rocio village, the focus of a pilgrimage that attracts nearly 1 million people from all over Andalucía and beyond. You will see the chapel built on the site where a 13th-century hunter is said to have discovered a statue of the Virgin Mary in a tree trunk.
Later, your 4WD vehicle will drop you at the beach at Matalascañas where you can enjoy a walk and a delicious lunch (payable direct). At the end of the excursion you will be dropped back at your hotel in Seville.
