Overview

This combo tour provides the perfect introduction to Madrid. Start with an orientation tour of the city. You will see the medieval origins of the city, Renaissance and Baroque buildings right through to contemporary Madrid. Continue to the world-famous Prado Museum, one of the world’s finest collections of European art. An expert guide will lead you through hundreds of years of art history.

You will begin with a city sightseeing tour of Madrid where you will explore Madrid’s rich history. Enjoy a 1-hour walking tour through the historic city center, stroll around Plaza de la Villa, the famous Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and Plaza de Oriente, visit the magnificent Puerta de Toledo, and pass by Mayor Street, Puerta del Sol square and the Las Cortes quarter on your way to the Paseo del Prado.

Observe the architecture of the Old Madrid arriving into the Las Letras Quarter.

Drive by Cibeles Fountain, where Real Madrid fans celebrate the team victories. You will also be seeing Puerta de Alcalá, the most famous of the five ancient gates into the city.

The tour continues with a visit to the Prado Museum, Spain’s major art museum that features one of the world’s finest collections of European art. The Prado Museum tour will be conducted in chronological order. Starting with the exhibit hall where the masterpieces of J. Bosch (El Bosco) (1450-1516) are displayed. Continue to discover the works of El Greco (1540-1614) and Velázquez (1599-1660) ending with Goya (1746-1828).

The tour will view and discuss over 15 key pieces – these include Las Meninas, The Garden of Earthly Delights, The Knight with His Hand on His Breast, The Second of May 1808 and the Holy Trinity.

Please be at the meeting point 15 minutes before the tour begins.

We will make convenient stops to rest and take pictures at Plaza Mayor, Debod’s Temple and Las Ventas Bullring, if the weather permits and always accompanied by our guide.
