Hear ghastly and gruesome tales of plague victims and the terrible fates they suffered.
For more than 2 hours, you’ll be transported back to some of the darkest days of Dublin’s past. Throughout the evening, three professional actors will tell tales of various unfortunate souls, the times in which they lived and the fates they met. Just ignore the coughing and other unsettling sounds!
Travelling by double-decker bus, you’ll pass Dublin Castle and Christ Church. The first stop is St. Audeon’s, Trinity College, where the plague house was in the 15th century. You’ll hear how plague victims tried to soothe their wounds in the city's drinking water. You’ll also learn of various schemes to keep the disease at bay and discover the fates of all those poor people who were infected. Many were ostracized, but some suffered an end much, much worse. Feel your hair stand up on the back of your neck as you watch out for ghosts of condemned prisoners at Kilmainham Jail. In Bully’s Acre, you’ll hear about grave robbers and other ne’er-do-wells.
You’ll arrive at Prospect Square for a visit to Kavanagh's Pub, where you’ll enjoy a Ghoulish Brew! Kavanagh’s, more commonly known as “The Gravediggers”, was a popular spot for body snatchers and “burkers” to grab a pint after a hard night’s work.
