The super-value Sound of Music and Salt Mines Combo Tour comprises two supremely popular Salzburg tours: the Original Sound of Music tour and the Bavarian Mountains and Salt Mines Tour.
You can start your tour either with “Original Sound of Music Tour” at 09:15am or "Bavarian Mountains and Salt Mines Tour" at 08:45am.
You will be picked up from Bus-terminal, Mirabellplatz. “Original Sound of Music Tour”: The original “Sound of Music” soundtrack will be played as you travel along.
Highlights of the tour include the following:
Mirabell Gardens: Maria and the children danced around the statue of Pegasus, the winged horse, and throughout the gardens singing 'Do-Re-Mi'.
Leopoldskron Castle: The castle front was used as the Trapp family home, and the children were boating on the Leopoldskron Lake when they fell into the water. The Venetian room was copied from the castle and used as the ballroom.
Hellbrunn Castle: The glass pavilion in the gardens of this 17th century hunting castle, used in the film, was reconstructed for the pleasure of “Sound of Music” fans still returning after 30 years.
Nonnberg Abbey: In real life Maria Trapp was a novice here and the baron and Maria were married here in 1927. Scenes for the movie made here include the opening with the nuns going to Mass and Maria coming too late.
St.Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang: Scenery shown at the beginning of the movie was filmed at Lake Fuschl on the way to St. Gilgen.
Wedding Church Mondsee: The film wedding between Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummer as the Baron took place in Mondsee Cathedral.
Bavarian Mountains and Salt Mines Tour:
Your afternoon tour departs from the bus-terminal at Mirabellplatz. After passing the hunting castle Hellbrunn you will cross the Austrian-Bavarian border. You will travel along the Königseeache valley, through the Bavarian mountains, past romantic farmhouses and the ruins of Obersalzberg – Hitler's former mountain retreat – you will arrive at the highlight of the journey, the 450-year-old Saltmines.
Wearing traditional miners' clothing, you descend a 100-foot-long slide into a twilight world of underground grottos. Your tour includes a raft ride on a salt lake, a miniature train ride and a film showing the origin of the salt deposits.
Afterwards you have the chance to regain your strength with some Bavarian specialties (payable direct) during a stop in the village of Berchtesgaden.
You will be driven back to Salzburg and dropped off at Mirabellplatz.
Note: The first part of your combo tour ends around 1:30pm. The next part of your combo tour starts at 2:00pm.
