• Lincoln Memorial: An enduring symbol of American freedom, the Lincoln memorial is a monument honoring the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. The pristine white building is modeled on a Greek temple. Inside is a large sculpture of Abraham Lincoln seated in a chair.
• Vietnam Memorial: The Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors the men and women who served in the Vietnam War. Its main monument, known as 'The Wall' is the most visited memorial in Washington.
• WWII Memorial: This is one of Washington D.C.’s newest monuments. The National World War II Memorial honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces during the war and the 400,000 Americans that died in that war. It is flanked by two of Washington D.C.’s most notable structures – the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.
• Jefferson Memorial: Modeled along the lines of the Pantheon in Rome, this tribute to Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, is located at the south side of the Tidal Basin. It is dominated by a neoclassical dome with a portico in the center of a manmade lake. The lake is surrounded by cherry trees, a gift from the city of Tokyo to the city of Washington in 1912. It is one of the most photographed sights in Washington, especially when the trees are laden with cherry blossoms.
