Officially known as Londonderry, Derry is the fifth-largest city in Ireland. The name ‘Derry’ is the anglicization of Doire which translates as 'oak-grove/oak-wood'. The research suggests that Derry was inhabited some 1400 years ago. The walled city still has its walls intact. Over time, Derry has earned many nicknames like The Walled City, Stroke City, Maiden City, etc.
Derry also served as one of the major ports during the 19th century. The former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill and playwright Brian Friel are native to Derry. The top attractions of the city include Derry City Medieval Walls, the Bloody Sunday Memorial, The Derry Murals, the Peace Bridge and the Derry Girls Mural. You can also reach Derry from Belfast on a 2.5-hour ride.
March to May is the ideal time to plan a trip to Derry, especially if you want to experience the blooming gardens of the city. To experience cool and comfortable weather, you can plan a trip during the autumn months from September to November. It is also a great time to experience the city’s various festivities.
That depends on your interests and the activities that you want to do in Derry. We recommend planning a trip for 2 to 3 days to explore the city’s main attractions. If you are interested in exploring the nearby areas like Donegal countryside, spare an extra day or two.
Derry bus tour offers you the convenience and flexibility to get off at the nearest designated stop. No tour guide, you set your own itinerary. You’ll find all the stops are located strategically at all the major attractions, making your touring as hassle-free as possible. And then, when you’re ready to continue, return to a designated bus stop, show your pass, and hop back on the bus and onwards towards your next attraction. So, go ahead and make a whole loop of the route once you have your tour ticket, get familiar with the city and pick out your favorite places to visit and then return to them during your stay.
There are several ticket options available to you, depending on your length of stay. Each bus tour will have validity from 24, 36, 48 to 72 hours. And the great thing is you can plan ahead as the vouchers are valid anywhere between 6 months to 1 year and can be used at any point during that period. Check the product page or bus tour operator for complete details.
