This wonderful day trip from Rome takes you to the city of Naples and Pompeii - the city destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
After departing from Rome, pass by the beautiful rolling hills of Lazio and Campania and approximately halfway along the highway, you will be able to see the Abbey of Montecassino. The abbey is perched on a mountain and symbolises the endurance and resilience of the Christian faith. It has been destroyed and rebuilt on four separate occasions, including the most recent, World War II.
Arrive at Naples and proceed towards the hill of Posillipo, from where you can enjoy spectacular views of the Gulf of Naples and the volcanic Mount Vesuvius. At Naples, you will visit the Piazza del Plebiscito, the largest square in Naples, bounded on the east by the Royal Palace and on the west by the Church of San Francesco di Paola.
You will also see the Royal Palace, one of the four residences used by the Bourbon Kings; and the impressive Castel dell’Ovo (meaning Egg’s Castle), the city’s oldest castle, rising upon the islet of Megaride. Apparently, the name of the castle is linked to a medieval legend.
Next, stop for an authentic Italian lunch at a local restaurant before heading to Pompeii. Cross the fertile valley of Mount Vesuvius passing the towns of Ercolano, Torre del Greco and Torre Annunziata before arriving at Pompeii.
Pompeii is one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was buried under lava and ash from Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and lay forgotten for hundreds of years. Excavations began in the 18th century and are still being carried out. An expert guide will bring Pompeii back to life for you and show you many of the best-preserved relics. Through the remains and ruins of this ancient city, you can picture the everyday life in the Imperial Age and imagine the panic felt by the people before the city was so disastrously buried.
After exploring Pompeii, you will make your journey back to Rome.
So there’s no last-minute rush please arrive at the start point 15 mins early.

Slip on some comfy footwear – This tour involves a fair bit of walking.
Tour guides were excellent, transport comfortable and all the family had a good time. Only thing we would have changed was that we would have liked even 30 mins in Naples for a coffee and cake before moving on to Pompeii.
Wonderful trip to Naples and Pompeii made special by amazing tour guides. Matte on the coach who was professional, friendly and very helpful, even assisting us to get a taxi back to our hotel at the end of the trip. And then Umberto our guide around Pompeii was so knowledgeable, patient and willing to answer all our questions. Couldn't fault them.
Pizza lunch was very tasty.
Would have loved more time in Pompeii but understand the tight time schedule.
Excellent guide.... Food was good. No hassle
