Who says some history, spirituality and retail therapy cannot go together? This walking tour of Grand Palace, Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Wang Lang Market treats you to all of that, with an added dose of admiration and inspiration, besides a whole lot of fun!
Meeting outside the breathtaking yellow-coloured Neoclassical shophouses in front of Tha Cha Pier, we will head straight for what is possibly the most famous landmark in Thailand - the iconic Grand Palace. Popular with Thai and international visitors alike, the Palace had been the official residence for all the Siamese kings between 1782 and 1925. The enormous complex is a truly spectacular, glittering under the sun, and comprises the Coronation Hall, Funeral Hall, administrative buildings, chedis, pavilions and much more - filling the compound with exquisite architecture and a long, illustrious history. The exploration also includes a visit to the country’s most sacred site - the Temple of the Emerald Buddha - which thousands throng everyday to pay their respects.
Having soaked up all the historic magnificence of the Palace, we will additionally visit the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, open only till May 2021, to browse the incredible documentation of traditional textiles across Thailand’s royal history - nestled in the Ratsadakorn-bhibhathana Building dating back to 1870.
We will then head back to the Tha Cha Pier to hop on to our ferry and arrive at the vivacious Wang Lang Market for our dose of shopping. A huge, popular riverside market, Wang Lang is a haven for shoppers who love to purchase from local traders. Unlike the more commercial and touristy Patpong or Chatuchak, this market is quite an experience in itself and treasure trove for finding some really unusual souvenirs - and a perfect place to conclude our tour on an exciting note!
